(0:01) Section 1 (0:04) You will hear a man phoning the customer services manager of a hotel (0:09) to get information about holding a conference there. (0:14) First, you have some time to look at questions 1 to 5. (0:44) You will see that there is an example that has been done for you. (0:49) On this occasion only, the conversation relating to this will be played first.

(0:58) Hello, Flanders Conference Hotel. (1:01) Oh, hi. I wanted to ask about conference facilities at the hotel.

(1:06) Have I come through to the right person? (1:08) Mm-hmm, you have. I'm the customer services manager. (1:12) My name's Angela.

(1:16) The name of the customer services manager is Angela. (1:21) So, Angela has been written in the space. (1:25) Now we shall begin.

(1:28) You should answer the questions as you listen (1:31) because you will not hear the recording a second time. (1:36) Listen carefully and answer questions 1 to 5. (1:44) Hello, Flanders Conference Hotel. (1:47) Oh, hi.

I wanted to ask about conference facilities at the hotel. (1:51) Have I come through to the right person? (1:54) Mm-hmm, you have. I'm the customer services manager.

(1:57) My name's Angela. So, how can I help you? (2:01) Well, I'm calling from Barrett & Stansons. (2:04) We're a medical company based in Perth.

(2:06) Oh, yes? (2:07) And we're organising a conference for our clients to be held in Sydney. (2:12) It'll be held over two days and we're expecting about 50 or 60 people. (2:17) When were you thinking of having it? (2:19) Sometime early next year, like the end of January.

(2:23) It'd have to be a weekend. (2:25) Ah, let me see. (2:28) Our conference facilities are already booked for the weekend beginning January the 28th.

(2:34) We could do the first weekend in February. (2:38) How about January the 21st? (2:41) Ah, oh, I'm afraid that's booked too. (2:45) Well, let's go for the February date then.

(2:48) So, that's the weekend beginning the 4th. (2:51) Okay. Now, can you tell me a bit about what conference facilities you have? (2:58) Sure.

So, for talks and presentations, we have the Tesla Room. (3:04) Sorry? (3:05) Tesla. That's spelled T-E-S-L-A.

It holds up to 100 people (3:13) and it's fully equipped with a projector and so on. (3:18) How about a microphone? (3:19) Yes, that'll be all set up ready for you. (3:23) And there'll be one that members of the audience can use too for questions if necessary.

(3:28) Fine. And we'll also need some sort of open area where people can sit and have a cup of coffee. (3:35) And we'd like to have an exhibition of our products and services there as well.

(3:40) So, that'll need to be quite a big space. (3:43) Mm-hmm. That's fine.

There's a central atrium with all those facilities (3:50) and you can come before the conference starts if you want to set everything up. (3:54) Great. And I presume there's Wi-Fi? (3:57) Oh, yes.

That's free and available throughout the hotel. (4:02) Okay. (4:04) Would you also like us to provide a buffet lunch? (4:07) We can do a two-course meal with a number of different options.

(4:11) What sort of price are we looking at for that? (4:14) Well, I can send you a copy of this standard menu. (4:18) That's $45 per person. Or you can have the special for $25 more.

(4:26) I think the standard should be okay. But yes, send me the menu. (4:34) Before you hear the rest of the conversation, you have some time to look at questions 6 to 10.

(5:05) Now listen and answer questions 6 to 10. (5:12) Now, we're also going to need accommodation on the Saturday night for some of the participants. (5:18) I'm not sure how many, but probably about 25.

So, what do you charge for a room? (5:25) Well, for conference attendees, we have a 25% reduction. (5:30) So, we can offer you rooms at $135. Normally, a standard room's $180.

(5:39) And does that include breakfast? (5:41) Sure. And of course, guests can also make use of all the other facilities at the hotel. (5:48) So, we've got a spa where you can get massages and facials and so on.

(5:53) And there's a pool up on the roof for the use of guests. (5:57) Oh, great. Now, what about transport links? The hotel's downtown, isn't it? (6:04) Yes.

It's about 12 kilometres from the airport. But there's a complementary shuttle bus for guests. (6:11) And it's only about 10 minutes walk from the Central Railway Station.

(6:16) Okay. Now, I don't know Sydney very well. (6:20) Can you just give me an idea of the location of the hotel? (6:23) Ah, well, it's downtown on Wilby Street.

That's quite a small street. And it's not very far from (6:32) the sea. And of course, if the conference attendees want to go out on their Saturday evening, (6:38) there's a huge choice of places to eat.

Then, if they want to make a night of it, (6:44) they can go on to one of the clubs in the area. There are a great many to choose from. (6:50) Okay.

So, if we go ahead with this, can you give me some information about how much we're looking at?
