(0:01) Section 1 (0:04) You will hear a telephone conversation between a woman who wants to attend a cookery class (0:10) and an official at a tourist information centre. (0:15) First, you have some time to look at questions 1 to 6. (0:50) You will see that there is an example that has been done for you. (0:54) On this occasion only, the conversation relating to this will be played first.

(1:03) Hello, tourist information centre, Mike speaking. How can I help you? (1:08) Oh, hi. I wanted to find out about cookery classes.

(1:12) I believe there are some one-day classes for tourists. (1:15) Well, they're open to everyone, but tourists are always welcome. (1:19) OK, let me give you some details of what's available.

(1:22) There are several classes. One very popular one is at the food studio. (1:30) The first cooking class is at the food studio.

(1:33) So, studio has been written in the space. (1:38) Now we shall begin. (1:41) You should answer the questions as you listen because you will not hear the recording a second time.

(1:49) Listen carefully and answer questions 1 to 6. (1:56) Hello, tourist information centre, Mike speaking. How can I help you? (2:01) Oh, hi. I wanted to find out about cookery classes.

(2:05) I believe there are some one-day classes for tourists. (2:09) Well, they're open to everyone, but tourists are always welcome. (2:13) OK, let me give you some details of what's available.

(2:16) There are several classes. One very popular one is at the food studio. (2:21) OK.

(2:22) They focus on seasonal products, and as well as teaching you how to cook them, (2:26) they also show you how to choose them. (2:28) Right, that sounds good. How big are the classes? (2:31) I'm not sure exactly, but they'll be quite small.

(2:35) And could I get a private lesson there? (2:38) I think so. Let me check. (2:41) Yes, they do offer those, though in fact most of the people who attend the classes (2:45) find it's a nice way of getting to know one another.

(2:48) I suppose it must be, yes. (2:50) And this company has a special deal for clients where they offer a discount of 20% (2:55) if you return for a further class. (2:57) OK, but you said there were several classes.

(3:00) That's right. (3:02) Another one you might be interested in is Bond's Cookery School. (3:05) They're quite new.

(3:06) They just opened six months ago, but I've heard good things about them. (3:10) They concentrate on teaching you to prepare healthy food, (3:13) and they have quite a lot of specialist staff. (3:17) So, is that food for people on a diet and things like that? (3:21) I don't know if I'd be interested in that.

(3:24) Well, I don't think they particularly focus on low-calorie diets or weight loss. (3:28) It's more to do with recipes that look at specific needs, (3:33) like including ingredients that will help build up your bones (3:36) and make them stronger, that sort of thing. (3:39) I see.

Well, I might be interested. I'm not sure. (3:43) Do they have a website I could check? (3:46) Yes.

Just key in the name of the school, it'll come up. (3:50) And if you want to know more about them, (3:51) every Thursday evening they have a lecture at the school. (3:54) It's free, and you don't need to book or anything.

(3:57) Just turn up at 7.30. (3:59) And that might give you an idea of whether you want to go to an actual class. (4:06) Before you hear the rest of the conversation, (4:08) you have some time to look at questions 7 to 10. (4:32) Now listen and answer questions 7 to 10.

(4:39) OK, there's one more place you might be interested in. (4:42) That's got a rather strange name. (4:45) It's called the Arezza Centre.

(4:48) That's spelled A-R-R-E-T-S-A. (4:54) OK. (4:54) They've got a very good reputation.

(4:57) They do a bit of meat and fish cookery, (4:59) but they mostly specialise in vegetarian dishes. (5:03) Right. That's certainly an area I'd like to learn more about.

(5:07) I've got lots of friends who don't eat meat. (5:10) In fact, I think I might have seen that school today. (5:14) Is it just by the market? (5:15) That's right.

(5:16) So they don't have any problem getting their ingredients. (5:19) They're right next door. (5:21) And they also offer a special two-hour course in how to use a knife.

(5:26) They cover all the different skills, (5:28) buying them, sharpening, chopping techniques. (5:31) It gets booked up quickly, though, (5:33) so you'd need to check it was available. (5:35) Right.

Well, thank you very much. (5:37) I'll go and check that out. (5:41) That is the end of Section 1. (5:44) You now have half a minute to check your answers.
