(0:00) Section 2. You will hear a manager talking to company employees about moving to a new office building. (0:10) First you have some time to look at questions 11 to 16 on page 3. (1:01) Now listen carefully and answer questions 11 to 16. (1:08) Thank you for coming to today's meeting everyone.
(1:10) I'd like to give you some information about moving to our new office building so that you know what the plans are. (1:17) So first let me explain why we're moving. (1:21) Even though we've taken on quite a few new employees over the last year, (1:25) we still have plenty of space here but the problem is where we are.
(1:29) But we've now found the perfect place in the city centre. (1:33) Originally we chose this building in the suburbs because the rent was much cheaper, (1:38) but our clients aren't always keen on coming out here. (1:41) I visited the new office last week and I'm pretty sure that you'll find the greatest advantage is the huge windows.
(1:49) I'm not sure we'll need desk lamps at all. (1:52) Of course we'll have everything checked out to make sure we can control the temperature of each office (1:57) and we may have to put some room dividers in some offices so that you're not disturbed by your colleagues' conversations. (2:04) We've just set a date for the move.
(2:07) The finance department wanted us to wait until after the end of the tax year, April, (2:11) but we've decided to move earlier. (2:14) As soon as the sales conference is over in January, we'll move. (2:18) That'll give us plenty of time to organise everything before you start taking your annual holidays.
(2:24) We've already put quite a bit of information about the move on the company website, (2:28) like restaurants and cafes around the new office, (2:32) but we're still checking bus routes and things like that, (2:35) so transport information will be up by next Monday. (2:39) Another thing still to get confirmed is which car park we can use and how many people can use it. (2:46) OK, let's move on to some practical things you have to do now.
(2:50) Don't worry yet about taking home your photos and things like that. (2:54) That can be sorted out much nearer the time, along with getting rid of any unwanted paperwork. (3:00) We need to find out how many new desks and chairs to order, (3:03) so could you make a list of any of the ones you use that are scratched or broken? (3:08) Just one thing, all documents containing non-confidential information can go into the general packing boxes, (3:15) but when it comes to documents containing confidential information, (3:19) you'll need to put these in special bags.
(3:21) You'll be given grey plastic ones for this, (3:24) so one thing to do now is go through your filing cabinets and identify which folders are confidential. (3:34) Before you hear the rest of the talk, you have some time to look at questions 17 to 20 on page 4. (4:01) Now listen and answer questions 17 to 20. (4:08) Now, to help you prepare for the move, I'd like to talk about lifting heavy things.
(4:13) You shouldn't really have to do this because a removal company will be used, (4:18) but you might want to move a box out of your way or something. (4:21) It's surprising how often people don't remember to use the handles on the boxes, although they all have them. (4:29) You've all had the leaflet explaining that you should keep your back straight and your head up when lifting, (4:34) and it also tells you to stand with your feet firmly on the ground and a little bit apart, so I think that's clear.
(4:41) But the leaflet emphasises the importance of not twisting to the left or right once you've picked something up, (4:47) and if you're like me, that's easy to forget. (4:51) I'd also like to talk about papers. (4:53) If they've been stored for a long time, they can get mould on them, a sort of fungus, (4:58) and as soon as you start moving them, the fungus gets disturbed.
(5:02) As you know, you can't open the windows in this building, but I suggest you use the gloves that we'll provide. (5:08) We'll also get some face masks, but we've been advised that these shouldn't be necessary. (5:13) What you should do is drink one or two litres of water a day, that's essential.
(5:18) Often the best time to do this sort of work is after your afternoon break, (5:22) so that you can leave the building soon afterwards. (5:26) Now, are there any questions? (5:30) That is the end of Section 2. (5:33) You now have half a minute to check your answers.
