(0:00) Section 1. You will hear a telephone conversation between a woman who is looking for a job (0:09) and a man from a company that organises cycling holidays. (0:15) First, you have some time to look at questions 1 to 6. You will see that there is an example (0:52) that has been done for you. On this occasion only, the conversation relating (0:59) to this will be played first.

Hello, Pembroke Cycling Holidays, Bob speaking. (1:09) Oh, hello. I've seen your advert for people to lead cycle trips.

Are you the right person (1:16) to speak to? Yes, I am. Could I have your name please? (1:19) It's Margaret Smith. The woman's surname is Smith.

(1:28) So Smith has been written in the space. Now we shall begin. (1:34) You should answer the questions as you listen because you will not hear the recording a (1:42) second time.

Listen carefully and answer questions 1 to 6. (1:53) Hello, Pembroke Cycling Holidays, Bob speaking. Oh, hello. I've seen your advert for people (2:00) to lead cycle trips.

Are you the right person to speak to? (2:05) Yes, I am. Could I have your name please? It's Margaret Smith. (2:09) Are you looking for a permanent job, Margaret? No, temporary.

I've got a permanent job starting (2:15) in a few months' time and I want to do something else until then. (2:20) What work do you do? This will probably sound crazy. I used to (2:24) be a lawyer and then I made a complete career change and I'm going to be a doctor.

I've (2:30) just finished my training. Right. And have you had any experience of leading (2:35) cycle trips? Yes, I've led several bike tours in Africa.

(2:40) The trip to India that I had arranged to lead next month has now been cancelled. So when (2:46) I saw you were advertising for tour leaders, I decided to apply. (2:50) OK.

Now we normally have two or three leaders on a trip, depending on the size of the group. (2:57) Some tours are for very experienced cyclists, but we've got a tour coming up soon in Spain, (3:02) which is proving so popular we need an additional leader. It's a cycling holiday for families.

(3:08) Would that suit you? It certainly would. I enjoy working with children (3:13) and I probably need some more experience before I go on a really challenging trip. (3:19) That tour includes several teenagers.

Have you worked with that age group before? (3:24) Yes, I'm a volunteer worker in a youth club where I help people to improve their cycling skills. (3:30) Before that, I helped out in a cycling club where I taught beginners. (3:34) Well, that's great.

Now, the trip I mentioned is just for a fortnight, but there might be (3:40) the possibility of leading other tours after that. Would that fit in with your plans? (3:45) That would be fine. I'll be free for five months.

My job is due to start on October 2nd (3:52) and I'm available from May 1st until late September. (3:56) Good. Now, is there anything I need to know about the food you eat? We usually have one or two people (4:03) in the group who don't eat meat or have some sort of food allergy, so we're always very careful (4:08) about that.

Yes, I'm allergic to cheese. Would that be a problem? (4:14) No, as long as we have enough notice, we can deal with that. (4:17) That's great.

Before you hear the rest of the conversation, (4:24) you have some time to look at questions 7 to 10. Now listen and answer questions 7 to 10. (4:55) It sounds really interesting.

Would you like me to fill in an application form? (5:00) Yes, please. Where should I post it to? (5:03) Could you send it to 27 Arbuthnot Place, A-R-B-U-T-H-N-O-T Place, Dumfries? (5:15) And what's the postcode, please? (5:18) D-G-7-4-P-H. (5:22) Was that P-Papa or B-Bravo? (5:25) P-Papa.

(5:26) Got that. If you could return the application form by Friday this week, we can interview you (5:32) on Tuesday next week. Say, half past two? Would that be possible for you? (5:38) Yes, it's fine.

You're quite a long way from where I live, so I'll drive over on Monday. (5:43) Should I bring anything to the interview? (5:46) We'll have your application form, of course, but we'll need to see any certificates you've (5:50) got that are relevant in cycling, first aid or whatever. (5:54) OK.

(5:55) And at the interview, we'd like to find out about your experience of being a tour guide. (6:01) So could you prepare a 10-minute talk about that, please? (6:04) You don't need slides or any complicated equipment, just some notes. (6:10) Right.

I'll start thinking about that straight away. (6:13) Good. Well, we'll look forward to receiving your application form, (6:17) and we'll contact you to confirm the interview.

(6:19) Thanks very much. (6:21) Thank you, Margaret. Goodbye.

(6:22) Bye. (6:26) That is the end of section one. (6:29) You now have half a minute to check your answers.
