(0:00) Part 1. You will hear a woman who works at an employment agency (0:06) talking to a man about jobs he could apply for. (0:10) First, you have some time to look at questions 1 to 5. (0:39) Now listen carefully and answer questions 1 to 5. (0:47) Good morning. Thanks for coming in to see us here at the agency, Joe.
(0:52) I'm one of the agency representatives and my name's Sally Baker. (0:56) Hi Sally. I think we spoke on the phone, didn't we? (0:59) That's right, we did.
So, thank you for sending in your CV.
(1:03) We've had quite a careful look at it and I think we have two jobs that might be suitable for you. (1:09) OK.
(1:10) The first one is in a company based in North London. (1:14) They're looking for an administrative assistant. (1:17) OK.
What sort of company is it?
(1:20) They're called Home Solutions and they design and make furniture. (1:25) Oh, I don't know much about that, but it sounds interesting. (1:29) Yes, well, as I said, they want someone in their office and looking at your past experience, (1:35) it does look as if you fit quite a few of the requirements.
(1:38) So, on your CV it appears you've done some data entry? (1:43) Yes. (1:43) So that's one skill they want. (1:46) Then they expect the person they appoint to attend meetings and take notes there.
(1:51) OK. I've done that before, yes. (1:53) And you need to be able to cope with general admin.
(1:57) Filing and keeping records and so on. That should be OK. (2:01) And in my last job I also had to manage the diary.
(2:05) Excellent. That's something they want here too. (2:08) I'd suggest you add it to your CV.
I don't think you mentioned that, did you?
(2:13) No. (2:14) So, as far as the requirements go, they want good computer skills, of course, (2:19) and they particularly mention spreadsheets. (2:22) That should be fine.
(2:24) And interpersonal skills, which would be something they'd check with your references. (2:28) I think that should be OK, yes. (2:31) Then they mention that they want someone who is careful and takes care with details.
(2:37) Just looking at your CV, I'd say you're probably all right there. (2:41) I think so, yes. Do they want any special experience? (2:45) I think they wanted some experience of teleconferencing.
(2:49) Oh, I've got three years' experience of that. (2:52) Let's see. Yes, good.
In fact, they're only asking for at least one year, so that's great.
(2:59) So, is that something that might interest you? (3:02) It is, yes. The only thing is, you said they were in north London, (3:07) so it would be quite a long commute for me.
(3:10) OK. (3:14) Before you hear the rest of the conversation, you have some time to look at questions 6 to 10. (3:46) Now listen and answer questions 6 to 10.
(3:52) So, the second position might suit you better as far as the location goes. (3:57) That's for a warehouse assistant and that's in south London. (4:01) Yes, that would be a lot closer.
(4:03) And you've worked in a warehouse before, haven't you? (4:06) Yes. (4:06) So, as far as the responsibilities for this position go, (4:10) they want someone who could manage the stock, obviously, and also deliveries. (4:15) That should be OK.
You've got to keep track of stuff,
(4:20) but I've always been quite good with numbers. (4:23) Good. That's their first requirement.
(4:25) And they want someone who's computer literate, which we know you are. (4:29) Sure. (4:30) Then they mention organisational skills.
They want someone who's well organised.
(4:36) Yes, I think I am. (4:38) And tidy? (4:40) Yes, they go together really, don't they? (4:43) Sure.
Then the usual stuff. They want someone who can communicate well,
(4:48) both orally and in writing. (4:50) OK.
And for the last warehouse job I had,
(4:54) one of the things I enjoyed most was being part of a team. (4:58) I found that was really essential for the job. (5:01) Excellent.
Yes, they do mention that they want someone who's used to that, yes.
(5:06) Now, when you were working in a warehouse last time, (5:10) what sorts of items were you dealing with? (5:12) It was mostly bathroom and kitchen equipment. Sinks and stoves and fridges.
(5:19) So you're OK moving heavy things? (5:22) Sure. I'm quite strong and I've had the training. (5:26) Good.
Now, as far as experience goes, they mention they want someone with a licence
(5:32) and that you have experience of driving in London, (5:35) so you can cope with the traffic and so on. (5:38) Yes, no problem. (5:39) And you've got experience of warehouse work.
(5:43) And the final thing they mention is customer service. (5:46) I think looking at your CV, you're OK there. (5:50) Right.
So what about pay? Can you tell me a bit more about that, please?
(5:57) That is the end of part one. (6:01) You now have one minute to check your answers to part one.
