(0:00) Now turn to section 4. (0:04) Section 4. (0:06) You are going to hear a lecture about dorm rooms. (0:10) First, you have some time to look at questions 31 to 40. (0:45) Now listen to the tape and answer questions 31 to 40.
(0:51) Welcome to your new home for the upcoming year. (0:54) These dorm rooms are among the best in the nation and are the newest ones at this school. (0:59) So I hope you will all learn to appreciate them and take good care of all the facilities (1:04) here.
(1:05) I am Gina and I will be residential advisor in this building for the year. (1:10) Today I am going to tell you about some of the programmes and facilities that are available (1:15) to you. (1:16) I will also be telling you the rules that everyone is expected to abide by.
(1:21) I will be asking you to give me your full attention for the next few minutes. (1:26) I will first tell you about the facilities that are available to you. (1:31) The dining facility is located on the first floor of the building.
(1:35) It is open 7 days a week from 7 a.m. to midnight. (1:40) All the food offered to students is freshly made every day and my own opinion is that (1:45) the food is actually quite good. (1:47) Feel free to come and grab a banana for breakfast or sit down with a group of friends for dinner.
(1:53) Although your meals are served buffet style, please do not waste food. (1:59) All students are expected to clean their own tables after meals. (2:04) In the basement of this building there is a gym and recreational hall.
(2:08) The gym has workout equipment such as treadmills and weight sets. (2:12) In the recreational hall there are ping pong tables and a pool table for student use. (2:18) You must sign in when using this equipment and you will be held responsible for any damages or losses.
(2:25) The gym and recreational hall are open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. (2:31) There is a kitchen located on the second floor of this building. (2:35) Your dorm key will open this door. (2:37) Inside there is a refrigerator, a microwave, an oven and a stove.
(2:43) This room is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. (2:48) If you decide to cook a meal, please be considerate to all the students and clean up after yourself. (2:54) You can use some food in here, but please do not make a mess.
(2:58) Some students do end up having their food eaten from the fridge, so be careful. (3:02) Don't leave anything that looks like it tastes really good. (3:06) Do not leave pots and pans lying around in the kitchen.
Please store these in your room.
(3:12) There are many programmes being sponsored by our building this year. (3:16) One of the most popular is our Saturday morning outings.
(3:20) In the past years these trips have included going fishing, hiking, cycling, ice skating and even going to the beach. (3:27) There will be a listing of scheduled events coming out soon. (3:31) The university sponsors these trips, so transportation will be provided.
(3:36) However, there are usually some costs associated, though they are usually minimal. (3:41) Our building also has a volleyball team. (3:44) All students who live in this building are welcome to join.
(3:47) Last year we won first place in the dorm league. (3:50) Please sign up at the front desk if you are interested as soon as possible, (3:54) as there are only 20 spaces available, based on a first-come, first-served rule. (4:00) The last things I want to talk about are the rules of our building.
(4:03) I know rules can be boring, but they are necessary to ensure the welfare of everyone living here. (4:09) First, noise levels must be kept to a minimum after 11 p.m. (4:14) Many students have early classes, so for those of you that have the luxury of sleeping until 10, (4:19) please don't stay up late making lots of noise. (4:22) Secondly, all visitors must sign in at the front door.
(4:25) Even if you have friends that are regular visitors, they must still always sign in. (4:31) This rule is to prevent theft and robbery from occurring. (4:35) Thirdly, alcohol and drugs are not permitted in this dorm in any place or at any time.
(4:41) Lastly, just be safe and have a great time. (4:44) University is the greatest time of your life, so make the most of it. (4:47) Thank you all for your attention.
(4:50) This is the end of Section 4. (4:53) You now have 30 seconds to check your answers.
