(0:00) Now turn to section 1. (0:07) Section 1. (0:09) You will hear a woman telephoning a travel agent to book a holiday. (0:14) First, you have some time to look at questions 1 to 7. (0:38) You should answer the questions as you listen because you will not hear the recording a second time. (0:46) Listen carefully to the first part of the conversation and answer questions 1 to 7. (0:55) Hello, you're through to Go Travel.
This is Darren speaking. How may I help you today?
(1:01) Hello, I'm calling to book a holiday. (1:04) Great.
May I take your name, please? Yes, it's Greaves, Anna Greaves.
(1:09) Is that G-R-E? (1:11) No, G-R-I-E-V-E-S and Anna is with double N. (1:18) Right. Thank you, Anna.
(1:20) Now, we're delighted you've called us. Can I ask where you heard about us? (1:25) It was your advertisement in one of the magazines. (1:30) Was it Holiday World? Yes, that's the one.
Good. Thank you. It's useful to know.
Of course.
(1:36) And did you have a particular holiday in mind or was it a general enquiry? (1:40) I think I've chosen. I like the look of the one with the code (1:44) F-T-4-5-5-1.
The right destination and the prices seem reasonable.
(1:50) Right. Now, was it for yourself only or...? (1:54) Oh, no, I want to go with a couple of friends, so there'd be three of us going.
(1:59) Okay. Now, there's a choice of dates, as you know. (2:03) Yes, I think, well, we've got to be back by the end of August.
(2:07) So if we say going on August the 16th, that would work fine. (2:12) No problem. And you can also choose the length of your holiday.
(2:16) There's, let's see, 7, 11 or 14 nights. (2:21) We thought the middle one would be great. Longer would be nice, of course, but... (2:26) Maybe next year.
Yes.
(2:28) And you do need to have insurance. (2:31) With three levels, standard, super and super plus.
(2:37) Standard seems a bit basic. (2:39) Let's say super. That should be sufficient.
Fine.
(2:46) Before you hear the rest of the conversation, (2:49) you have some time to look at questions 8 to 10. (3:07) Now, listen and answer questions 8 to 10.
(3:14) Well, that's all good so far and the availability is OK. (3:18) Have you looked through the list of options there in the advertisement? (3:22) I have. And I've got the list here.
(3:24) Some of them do seem a good idea. (3:27) Which ones would you like to take? (3:29) In terms of the hotel, the offer of picnic lunches, we'd leave that. (3:34) We'd rather go to cafes.
(3:36) I think a balcony for the room is a must. (3:39) It's so nice to sit out enjoying the view. (3:41) Oh, yes.
(3:42) And then the trips, I think we'll pass on the night bus one. (3:48) I never really enjoy the common trees. (3:51) And museums aren't really my sort of thing, to be honest, any more than dances.
(3:56) But I like practical things. (3:59) So I think the demonstration of local arts could be fun. (4:03) Yes, I would think so.
(4:05) And then in terms of getting out of town, (4:08) going up the river on a boat sounds delightful. (4:11) And I wouldn't want to miss that. (4:13) But the mountains, well, sitting in a coach on those winding roads.
(4:18) I understand. (4:19) OK, well, that's all I need for the booking at this point. (4:23) Just a few details for you and then we'll check the payment.
(4:30) That is the end of section one. (4:33) You now have half a minute to check your answers.
