(0:01) You will hear an interview with a woman who is doing a survey on transport. (0:08) First, you have some time to look at questions 1 to 5. (0:37) Now listen carefully and answer questions 1 to 5. (0:44) Excuse me, would you mind if I asked you some questions? (0:49) We're doing a survey on transport. (0:52) Yes, that's OK.
(0:54) First of all, can I take your name? (0:56) Yes, it's Sadie Jones. (0:59) Thanks very much. (1:01) And could I have your date of birth? (1:03) Just the year will do, actually.
Is that all right?
(1:06) Yes, that's fine. It's 1991. (1:12) So, next, your postcode, please.
(1:15) It's DW30 7YZ. (1:21) Great, thanks. Is that in Wells? (1:24) No, it's actually in Harborne.
Wells isn't far from there, though.
(1:30) I really like that area. My grandmother lived there when I was a kid.
(1:35) Yes, it is nice. (1:37) Right, so now I want to ask you some questions about how you travelled here today. (1:43) Did you use public transport? (1:46) Yes, I came by bus.
(1:48) OK, and that was today. It's the 24th of April, isn't it? (1:54) Isn't it the 25th? No, actually, you're right. (2:01) And what was the reason for your trip today? I can see you've got some shopping with you.
(2:07) Yes, I did some shopping, but the main reason I came here was to go to the dentist. (2:14) That's not much fun. Hope it was nothing serious.
(2:18) No, it was just a check-up. It's fine. (2:21) Good.
Do you normally travel by bus into the city centre?
(2:26) Yes, I stopped driving in ages ago because parking was so difficult to find. And it costs so much. (2:35) I see.
(2:36) The bus is much more convenient, too. It only takes about 30 minutes. (2:41) That's good.
So, where did you start your journey?
(2:45) At the bus stop on Claksby Street. (2:49) Is that C-L-A-X-B-Y? (2:54) That's right. (2:58) Before you hear the rest of the conversation, you have some time to look at questions 6 to 10.
(3:29) Now listen and answer questions 6 to 10. (3:36) And how satisfied with the service are you? Do you have any complaints? (3:40) Well, as I said, it's very convenient and quick when it's on time. (3:47) But this morning it was late.
Only about 10 minutes, but still.
(3:52) Yes, I understand. That's annoying.
(3:55) And what about the timetable? Do you have any comments about that? (3:58) Hmm. I suppose I mainly use the bus during the day. (4:05) But any time I've been in town in the evening, for dinner or at the cinema, (4:11) I've noticed you have to wait a long time for a bus.
There aren't that many.
(4:17) OK, thanks. So now I'd like to ask you about your car use.
(4:22) Well, I have got a car, but I don't use it that often, mainly just to go to the supermarket. (4:31) But that's about it really. My husband uses it at the weekends to go to the golf club.
(4:37) And what about a bicycle? (4:39) I don't actually have one at the moment. (4:42) What about the city bikes you can rent? Do you ever use those? (4:46) No, I'm not keen on cycling there because of all the pollution. (4:51) But I would like to get a bike.
It would be good to use it to get to work.
(4:57) So why haven't you got one now? (4:59) Well, I live in a flat on the second floor and it doesn't have any storage, (5:06) so we'd have to leave it in the hall outside the flat. (5:10) I see.
OK, well, I think that's all we need from you today, Sadie.
(5:18) That is the end of part one. You now have one minute to check your answers to part one.
