(0:00) Part 1. (0:02) You will hear a woman phoning the owner of a house she is going to rent about companies that she could rent furniture from. (0:11) First, you have some time to look at questions 1 to 5.
(0:45) Now listen carefully and answer questions 1 to 5.
Speaker 1
(0:53) Good morning.
Speaker 2
(0:55) Hi, this is Shelley Meyer. (0:57) I'm renting your house on Archwood Avenue. (1:00) I'm due to move in next week.
Speaker 1
(1:02) Oh yes, hello Ms. Meyer. (1:04) What can I do for you?
Speaker 2
(1:06) When I viewed the house, I told you I'll most probably need to rent some furniture, at least until I know whether my temporary work contract is going to be made permanent.
Speaker 1
(1:16) Yes, of course, I remember. (1:18) And I said I could give you some information about furniture rental companies in the city.
Speaker 2
(1:23) That's right.
Speaker 1
(1:25) Well, the biggest company is called Peak Rentals. (1:29) I've recommended them to other people and have heard positive reports about them.
Speaker 2
(1:33) Could you give me an idea of their costs?
Speaker 1
(1:37) Sure. (1:37) I actually have one of their brochures here. (1:40) It says the monthly price per room starts at $105 and goes up to $239.
(1:48) That depends on which rooms you need furniture for, of course.
Speaker 2
(1:52) Sure. (1:53) It's just to get a general idea of how much it's going to cost. (1:58) And you said you had some positive feedback about this company?
Speaker 1
(2:02) Yes. (2:03) People have mentioned that the furniture from Peak Rentals is more modern than any of the other companies. (2:10) And also, once you place an order, the furniture will be delivered to you in just one or two days.
Speaker 2
(2:17) That would be really helpful.
Speaker 1
(2:19) Oh, and the brochure says that there's a special offer at the moment. (2:23) If you rent living room furniture, I believe that's a set of chairs and a TV table, you'll also get a lamp at no extra cost.
Speaker 2
(2:34) Okay, but you know, that price range you gave is more than I was hoping to pay.
Speaker 1
(2:40) Then you could try Aaron and Oliver.
Speaker 2
(2:43) Sorry. (2:44) What and Oliver?
Speaker 1
(2:46) Aaron. (2:47) Double A-R-O-N.
Speaker 2
(2:50) Okay. (2:51) Are they cheaper?
Speaker 1
(2:53) I'd say they're a mid-price company. (2:56) But if you chose them, you need to be aware that they charge an extra 12% every month in case of damage.
Speaker 2
(3:03) Oh, I see. (3:04) I'd have to do the math carefully then.
Speaker 1
(3:07) Right. (3:08) But one helpful thing is that they also do cleaning for customers.
Speaker 2
(3:12) For the furniture?
Speaker 1
(3:14) For the house.
Speaker 2
(3:15) Oh, I see. (3:16) I probably won't need that.
Speaker 3
(3:21) Before you hear the rest of the conversation, you have some time to look at questions 6 to 10. (4:03) Now listen and answer questions 6 to 10.
Speaker 1
(4:10) There's another company called Larch Furniture. (4:13) It's quite new and it has the lowest prices in town. (4:17) That's for both furniture and also electronic equipment.
Speaker 2
(4:21) Well, that would be good. (4:23) I'm not bringing much after I start my job.
Speaker 1
(4:30) There are two things you need to know about Larch Furniture. (4:35) First of all, you have to take out insurance on the furniture and you need to organise that yourself.
Speaker 2
(4:41) That wouldn't be too hard.
Speaker 1
(4:43) Also, you can't take out a contract for less than six months. (4:47) But I figure that might not be a problem for you. (4:50) You're renting the house for 12 months after all, aren't you?
Speaker 2
(4:54) Yes. (4:55) Okay.
Speaker 1
(4:56) Well, I'm- Okay. (5:08) I don't have any information about their charges, so it's best to use their app to find out what it would cost you to use them.
Speaker 2
(5:16) Okay. (5:17) Thanks. (5:17) I'll do that.
Speaker 1
(5:19) One good thing about that company is that if you don't like the furniture once it's delivered, you can request exchanges, as long as you do that within a week of receiving it.
Speaker 2
(5:29) That sounds really great. (5:32) Okay. (5:33) Well, thanks very much.
(5:35) That's so helpful.
Speaker 3
(5:40) That is the end of part one. (5:42) You now have one minute to check your answers to part one.
