(0:00) Part 1 (0:06) You will hear a woman asking a sales assistant about insurance policies. (0:12) Before you listen again, you have 30 seconds to read questions 1 to 6. (0:47) Good morning. Take a seat.

(0:49) I see you've picked up some of our brochures. (0:52) Yes, I've been reading the one on travel. (0:55) Would the travel insurance be for you or for your family as well? (0:59) Just for me.

(1:01) So, individual? (1:02) That's right. (1:03) Are you looking for a basic or a comprehensive policy? (1:07) To be honest, I've had basic in the past, but it didn't pay out very much. (1:13) That's often true.

(1:14) With our company, you can be insured for different amounts. (1:18) For instance, in Section 1, Baggage and Personal Effects, (1:22) you can be insured for all five subsections or for as few as two. (1:27) I think I'd like insurance for all five since I'm going to some unsafe places.

(1:32) Wise decision. (1:35) By the way, can a camera be counted as a single item (1:38) or must it be included in cameras and portable electronic equipment? (1:43) If you have an expensive camera, you can nominate it as a single item. (1:48) Our maximum payout is $1,500.

(1:51) Occasionally, people have their camera and computer stolen together. (1:55) If insurance is only taken out on Subsection 2, (1:59) this may not cover the replacement of both things. (2:03) That's what happened with my previous policy.

(2:06) However, in that one, there was a higher limit for lost or stolen money. (2:11) Yours is only $700. (2:13) These days, with credit cards, people don't carry much cash, (2:17) so we've set the limit accordingly.

(2:19) Still, we pay out well for documents. (2:22) Indeed. (2:23) In the Disrupted Travel section, (2:25) reasonable costs is written for a missed connection or an early return (2:31) instead of an amount of money.

(2:33) What exactly are reasonable costs? (2:36) Put it this way. (2:37) If you miss your flight due to poor weather that is verifiable, (2:41) we pay $300 per day of lost time. (2:45) If you arrive at check-in as the aircraft is leaving because you overslept, (2:49) we still pay out, but only $100 a day.

(2:52) We rely on information from the airline to determine this. (3:04) Are you also interested in vehicle insurance? (3:37) Yes, I am. (3:38) I'm about to buy a nice old car, a vintage Jaguar XJ6.

(3:44) Hey, I used to have one of those, (3:46) although nowadays I prefer old motorbikes. (3:49) Did you know you can insure a vehicle on its own (3:51) or you can include it in our multi-saver policy, (3:54) along with your house and contents? (3:56) Yes, I saw that. (3:58) It's true I'm buying an expensive car, (4:01) but I rent my house so I'm not ready for a multi-saver.

(4:05) I understand. (4:07) Have you decided which level of cover you'd like for your car? (4:10) Top cover. (4:12) Are you sure? It is pricey.

(4:14) I know, but last time I had insurance, (4:17) I wasn't covered for storm damage. (4:19) Don't tell me that was just before the November hailstorm. (4:23) Uh-huh.

(4:25) So, I need storm damage insurance. (4:28) Also, I'd like my policy to start as soon as I've paid for it. (4:32) With my old one, there was a stand-down period of two weeks.

(4:36) Would you believe, I backed into a wall (4:38) just three days after I'd taken out the policy. (4:41) Oh dear. (4:43) Then, I spent months fighting with the insurance company (4:46) over the value of my car.

(4:48) I know it wasn't worth much, (4:50) but it was relatively new. (4:53) If you choose top cover, (4:54) we agree on a value for your car (4:56) and renegotiate each year to avoid disputes. (5:00) Again, it's not as cheap as some, (5:02) but the policy works out better in the long run.

(5:09) That is the end of Part 1. (5:12) You now have one minute to check your answers to Part 1.
