(0:01) Now turn to section 2. (0:04) You will hear the manager of a fitness centre (0:06) giving information about the centre to some new customers. (0:11) First, you have some time to look at questions 11 to 15. (0:25) Now listen carefully and answer questions 11 to 15.

(0:30) Hello everyone and welcome to the Fit for Life Health Centre, (0:35) a place which as the name suggests (0:37) is not just for short term solutions (0:39) but rather intends to put you on a sensible and achievable footing (0:43) for the rest of your life. (0:46) And that's how we're different. (0:48) For example, we could immediately put you on a harsh exercise programme (0:53) expecting you to work out every day (0:55) but such a plan would see you quickly lose interest.

(0:59) That's why the initial step is a one and a half hour consultation (1:03) in which your lifestyle, current situation and long term goals (1:08) are all thoroughly analysed. (1:11) Now, an important part of this consultation (1:14) involves analysing what you eat. (1:17) There's no point exercising here and losing weight (1:19) than putting it all back on later.

(1:22) You will need to show self-control and discipline in your diet (1:26) and we'll work on that. (1:28) Similarly, we'll put you on an exercise regime (1:31) suitable for your level of fitness. (1:34) So that will involve a test (1:36) where we will take you through some activities.

(1:39) Then measure your heart rate and blood pressure (1:41) to determine how fit you are. (1:44) This will be monitored during every subsequent consultation (1:47) along with your exercise schedule (1:50) and that occurs monthly and not half yearly (1:53) as with many other centres. (1:56) As to our actual exercise machines and programmes (1:59) you will have to decide whether it is muscle mass, stamina (2:03) or general fitness that you want to develop.

(2:07) Think about which of these three you want to target (2:09) and we'll design a specific programme for you. (2:13) But remember, bulging muscles aren't necessarily suitable for everyone. (2:18) Sometimes it's better to think in terms of two simple concepts (2:22) muscle definition and stamina (2:24) or, if you are female, being fit and healthy (2:27) in both mind and body.

(2:31) Before you hear the rest of the talk (2:33) you have some time to look at questions 16 to 20. (2:49) Now listen and answer questions 16 to 20. (2:55) Now, if you're going to work out at this gym (2:58) you'll need to think about your reasons for exercising (3:01) so let's consider that in more detail.

(3:04) Muscle mass is certainly popular with the guys (3:07) probably seeking to impress the girls (3:09) and with muscles comes the confidence to do that, right? (3:13) Well, for that you'll need our high stress weight units (3:17) where pumping iron is all the rage. (3:20) Moving on to other benefits (3:21) one of the main ones is beating the tension of life, right? (3:25) And the longer the exercise is (3:27) the greater the rewards in this respect. (3:30) Thus, playing squash can certainly help (3:32) and so can swimming (3:33) but what's much better, as every jogger will tell you (3:36) is their activity.

(3:38) So, we have ample jogging machines (3:41) and they're always popular. (3:43) They can provide good fitness too (3:44) as can the yoga classes. (3:47) However, again, let's not forget playing squash (3:50) which I would say is the optimum way (3:52) to improve your general well-being.

(3:55) Such an active, energetic game (3:57) plus the competitive element (3:59) drives you forward into high levels of health and fitness. (4:03) These, of course, are the ultimate purposes of being here (4:06) but remember, the centre is full of like-minded people (4:11) all of whom are interesting to meet (4:13) and valuable sources of information. (4:16) The yoga classes have a pre- and post-meeting session (4:20) so you'll certainly meet others there (4:22) although they'll all be yoga enthusiasts (4:24) which limits the range somewhat.

(4:27) But whether doing yoga, swimming or exercising (4:30) everyone showers, right? (4:32) So those facilities are where you'll hear (4:34) all sorts of interesting conversations (4:36) and really get to know people (4:38) not like the front desk area (4:40) which is mostly empty (4:42) as patrons go immediately inside to do their exercise. (4:46) Of course, the front desk can answer all your questions (4:49) and has information brochures and such like (4:52) but for knowing more about a greater variety of subjects (4:56) and community concerns (4:57) look at the notice board in the yoga studio (5:00) where there's a huge array of papers (5:02) leaflets and articles (5:04) all for you to read and consider. (5:09) That is the end of section 2. (5:12) You now have half a minute to check your answers.
