(0:00) IELTS Listening Version 53997 (0:07) You will hear a number of different recordings, and you will have to answer questions on what (0:12) you hear. There will be time for you to read the instructions and questions, and you will (0:18) have a chance to check your work. All the recordings will be played once only.

(0:25) The test is in four parts. Write all your answers in the listening question booklet. (0:33) At the end of the test, you will be given ten minutes to transfer your answers to an (0:38) answer sheet.

Now turn to Part 1 on page 2 of your question booklet. (0:51) Part 1 You will hear a woman talking to a builder (0:55) who is going to do some building work at her house. (0:59) First you have some time to look at questions 1 to 4. (1:23) Now listen carefully and answer questions 1 to 4. (1:30) SALLY Morning.

Thanks for coming round. I'm Sally. (1:33) SALLY Morning.

So just before we get started, I'll (1:36) just make a few notes. So, we're at 15 Hill Street? (1:42) SALLY Yes, that's right. (1:43) SALLY OK, great.

And then I need to write down your (1:46) contact information, just for the office, you know. So first, what's your surname please, (1:52) Sally? (1:53) SALLY It's Keyworth. I'll spell that.

K-E-Y-W-O-R-T-H. (2:01) SALLY And your phone number, I've got that somewhere. (2:04) Yes, 027 584 6613? (2:10) SALLY That's right.

(2:11) SALLY OK, Sally. So what building work would you like to have done? (2:15) SALLY Well, let's go into the kitchen first. So, (2:20) you see it's quite dark in here.

We've tried having a few lights fitted but it hasn't really (2:25) made any difference. So what we've decided is the window is too small. We'd like a larger (2:32) one.

(2:32) SALLY That shouldn't be a problem. And is there (2:35) anything else you'd like done in the kitchen? (2:37) SALLY Well, at this time of year, I mean, I shouldn't (2:40) complain really, but I wish it wasn't so hot in here. Is there anything you can do (2:46) about that? (2:47) SALLY Air conditioning? (2:47) SALLY It's too expensive.

(2:49) SALLY How about a fan then? (2:51) SALLY Yes, that would be perfect. (2:53) SALLY Righto. And what's next, Sally? (2:55) SALLY Well, if we walk through into the bathroom, (2:59) the thing is, when my father's staying, he can't use the bath.

So I thought here, on the (3:05) back wall, I'd like you to fit a shower. Is that possible? (3:09) SALLY Shouldn't be too hard. I'll get you some (3:11) brochures, because there are a few ways of doing that.

(3:14) SALLY Thanks. (3:14) SALLY Now, those tiles on the wall look new. So (3:18) do you want to keep those? (3:19) SALLY Yes, the tiles are new, but actually my (3:21) husband doesn't like them.

We want to change to those very small ones. But do I have to (3:27) choose a colour now? (3:28) SALLY You can do that later. I'll get some charts (3:31) for you to look at.

(3:35) Before you hear the rest of the conversation, you have some time to look at questions 5 (3:41) to 10. Now listen and answer questions 5 to 10. (4:18) SALLY Now the last thing, let's walk outside.

I (4:21) need to show you some things outside the house. (4:24) MAN Righto. Oh, nice garden.

And the fence looks (4:28) in good condition. (4:29) SALLY Yes, it's new, but the thing is the gate. (4:32) It's too low.

You have to bend down to open it. We need something that's higher. (4:37) MAN Right, I'll see to that.

(4:39) SALLY Then the other thing is the garage here. (4:41) We had a break in actually. (4:43) MAN Ah, yeah, I can see.

The door should be fine, (4:49) but the lock. I'll replace that, shall I? (4:51) SALLY Yes, thanks. Then also, if you step back (4:54) here and look up on the roof, you can see that it's damaged.

(4:58) MAN Did that happen in the storm a couple of (5:01) weeks ago? (5:01) SALLY Yes, that's right. (5:02) MAN I'll get up there and take a look at that (5:04) then. That might be quite a big job, but I'll get (5:07) back to you once I've had a look.

(5:08) SALLY OK. (5:09) MAN I can see that your rain gutter is broken (5:11) as well. (5:12) SALLY Can you fix that? (5:13) MAN Well, I'll need to replace it, maybe with (5:16) a steel one.

It'd be stronger. (5:18) SALLY No, plastic will be fine, thanks. It's (5:20) cheaper.

(5:21) MAN OK. (5:22) SALLY And that's everything, I think. Is there (5:25) any other information you need? What about a start date? (5:29) MAN Well, I'm completely booked all April, and (5:32) I've got a job on May the 5th.

That'll be a few (5:36) days, so let's say May the 8th. (5:39) SALLY OK. (5:40) MAN Now, what about a key in case you're out? (5:43) SALLY We have a security code.

I'll give you (5:45) that. It's a mix of letters and numbers. The code (5:49) is AG4176.

(5:53) MAN Got that. OK, we'll organise some... (6:01) That is the end of part one. You now have one (6:04) minute to check your answers to part one.
