0:00/0:00

(0:00) between an assistant at a car service station and a customer. (0:06) First, you have some time to look at questions one and two on page two. (0:21) You will see that there is an example that has been done for you.
(0:25) On this occasion only, the conversation relating to this will be played first. (0:35) Good morning, servicing department. (0:37) Good morning.
I'd like to book my car in for a service, please.
(0:40) Certainly, sir. If I could just take your name.
(0:44) Ian Croft. (0:48) The customer's name is Ian Croft, so Croft has been written in the space. (0:56) Now we shall begin.
(0:58) You should answer the questions as you listen because you will not hear the recording a second time. (1:05) Listen carefully and answer questions one and two. (1:13) Good morning, servicing department.
(1:14) Good morning. I'd like to book my car in for a service, please. (1:19) Certainly, sir.
If I could just take your name.
(1:22) Ian Croft. (1:24) Right.
And have you had the car serviced with us before?
(1:28) No, I've only just moved here. (1:31) Right, so I'll need to take some details of the car then. (1:36) So could I have a registration number, please? (1:41) BD51STR.
(1:41) Is that B for Bravo at the beginning? (1:45) Yes, that's right. (1:47) And the make of the car? (1:49) It's a Vida. (1:50) Right.
And is that the estate?
(1:53) No, the four-door saloon. (1:55) Good. And do you know the date of manufacture? (2:01) About... oh, hold on.
I'll have to work this one out. We've had it for ages. It must be 2001.
(2:08) Right. And can you tell me what the mileage is? (2:11) It's done a lot. Let's see.
I did make a note of it. Yes, it's 180,000 miles. It's done very well, actually.
(2:22) Before you hear the rest of the conversation, you have some time to look at questions 3 to 10 on page 2. (3:10) Now listen and answer questions 3 to 10. (3:17) Right. Well, now, of course, we'll do a full service, but are there any particular problems or things you'd like us to check? (3:26) Yes, a few.
I think a couple of the tyres probably need replacing. They're getting a bit worn.
(3:32) OK.
We do automatically look at those, but I'll make a note of that anyway.
(3:38) Then it's not a big problem, but it's a bit annoying. When you open the car door, the light ought to come on inside automatically, but it seems to have stopped working.
(3:48) Right. We'll have a look at that for you. I'm sure we can fix that.
(3:52) OK. What else? Oh yes, on one of the passenger seats at the back, you can't fasten the belt. It seems to have stuck.
It just happened yesterday, so that needs looking at.
(4:03) Yes, that's quite important if you carry passengers in the back. Anything else? (4:09) There was something.
Let me see. Well, one thing that's actually going to need replacing, I think, is the radio. It hasn't worked for some time.
(4:18) Would you like us to give you a quote for that before we fit a new one? (4:22) Yes, please. Oh, and I know what I meant to say. I know you'll check the brakes in a service, but can you have a particular look at the front ones? I think they might be a bit worn.
(4:32) Certainly. I'll make a note of that too. (4:36) OK.
And the other thing is, I only have one key for the car and I really need a spare.
(4:42) Yes, we'll have to order that for you, but we can do that. (4:45) Great.
(4:46) So, when would you like to come in for the service? (4:49) Well, do you have anything next week? Tuesday would be good. (4:53) That's the 4th of October, isn't it? No, the 5th. Yes, can you make 8am? (5:00) Yes, that's fine.
(5:02) And the service will take a few hours, so would you like to have a courtesy car during that time? There's no extra charge. (5:10) Yes, that will be good. But can I have an automatic, if possible, please? (5:14) We'll see what we can do.
Right, and now I just need to take your address, Mr Croft.
(5:22) It's 361 College Road, Norwich. And would you like a phone number? (5:28) Yes, please.
A daytime number would be best, if possible.
(5:32) Right. 07847355780.
(5:39) Lovely. So that's it. Thank you very much, Mr Croft.
