Read Adapted Books

Detailed Strategies by Question Type
Step-by-step strategies for each IELTS Reading question type:
Multiple Choice
- Read the first question & underline keywords
- Scan the text for info related to the question
- Once you find keywords or synonyms, look for the answer nearby
- Read the next lines of text for confirmation
- Cross out clearly incorrect options
Question order matches text — answer to Q4 will be between Q3 & Q5.
True / False / Not Given
- Read the statement & underline keywords
- Scan the text, looking for keywords or synonyms
- Compare the found fragment with the statement
Don't rely on your knowledge! The answer is based only on text info.
Matching Headings
- Read all headings & understand their meaning
- For each paragraph, find the main idea: "What's the author's point?"
- Match the main idea with headings from the list
- If two headings fit — mark both, return later
- Cross out used headings
Don't spend too long on one paragraph. Skip & return later. Headings aren't necessarily in text order.
Sentence Completion
- Use keywords from the question to find the paragraph
- Find a sentence with similar meaning
- Ensure the answer fits grammatically
- Check the word limit ("NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS")
Pay attention to new terms introduced in the text — answers are often related to them.
Summary Completion
- Read the Summary fully to grasp context
- Identify info type for each gap (name, date, reason)
- Use keywords to search in the text
- Check grammar & word limit
Summary often paraphrases text — look for synonyms. Answers follow text order.
Diagram / Flowchart Completion
- Study the diagram/flowchart: headings, arrows, order
- Identify keywords near the gaps
- Find text sections describing this process
- Follow the sequence: top-down or by arrows
- Predict word type (noun, verb) before searching
- Check spelling & word limit
IELTS rarely uses exact text words — expect synonyms & paraphrases.
